What is direct stick flooring?
This kind of flooring is directly glued to a timber or concrete substrate. This flooring is often used in older-styled homes. There are three common types of direct stick flooring: chevron parquetry, herringbone parquetry, and engineered timber flooring.
What is engineered timber flooring?
Engineered timber flooring gives you the luxurious look of timber flooring but is more affordable and easier to install and maintain. This flooring can be installed either as a direct stick or as a floating floor.
What are floating floors?
Floating floors do not need to be nailed or glued down to the subfloor. Examples of floating floors include hybrid flooring, laminate flooring, and engineered timber flooring.
What does wear layer thickness mean?
Having a thicker wear layer translates to more durable flooring. Though more expensive, thicker wear layer flooring can withstand more wear and tear and last longer than flooring with thinner wear layers.
Is hybrid flooring 100% waterproof?
Hybrid flooring is 100% waterproof. It is made of limestone composite core board with limestone powder that makes it stable and waterproof, helping it withstand sudden changes in temperature.
Is laminate flooring waterproof?
Unfortunately, laminate flooring is not waterproof. However, some laminate flooring options include a protective top coat that prevents water from slipping into the core. This makes these floors water resistant.
Are expansion gaps required around the perimeter of my new flooring?
If you are installing laminate, hybrid, or engineered timber flooring, you need to have expansion gaps. Changes in temperature and humidity can affect the flooring, and it will expand and contract. Having expansion gaps ensures that you will not have defects in your flooring.
How do I self-level over an existing subfloor?
Apply a floor primer by brushing or rolling onto the concrete. Allow this to dry for 20 to 30 minutes. After that, pour a self-levelling compound over the area that needs to be levelled.
How do I self-level over an existing timber or tile subfloor?
First, make sure that the subfloor is completely contained and sealed. Apply a non-porous floor primer bonding agent followed by a floor self-levelling compound to the area.
